Low-Income Energy Assistance Funding Cut 10-06-2010

Getting help with your utility bills will be harder this winter.
The state Department of Human Services is slashing the maximum amount of assistance each household can get.
Now, instead of being able to get $850 for electricity or natural gas costs, the most you'll receive is $350.
Households that are all electric will see a decrease from $1,700 to $700.
The cuts come as the state braces for a reduction in federal funding for low-income energy assistance.
Those working with groups and agencies that help people cover utility bills during the winter consider the cuts "significant."
