MRSA Case Closes Local Academy Thursday 10-07-2010

SAGINAW, Mich.WNEM TV5 has learned that North Saginaw Charter Academy closed Thursday after a 6th student was diagnosed with MRSA.
Officials of the National Heritage Academies said appropriate actions were taken, including a complete cleaning of the school.
MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a staph bacteria that does not respond to penicillin and related antibiotics, though it can be treated with other drugs.
Cleaning crews were at the school until 1 a.m. Wednesday and they'll be working throughout Thursday to get everything sanitized. They paid special attention to areas like tables, keyboards and doorknobs
Officials said the school will reopen for classes on Friday
