Baby Born At 1 Pound, 5 Ounces Doing Well 10-15-2010

The name Kaidyn is an appropriate one for Hurley Medical Center's latest miracle baby.
The name means "little fighter or warrior." And, that's just want Kaidyn Terrell Lewis is -- a fighter.
He was born Aug. 10 weighing just 1 pound, 5 ounces, measuring 12 inches long -- 11 weeks ahead of schedule.
After spending the past month in Hurley's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Kaidyn now weighs more than 4 pounds.
"Kaidyn is alive and growing because of Hurley and the outstanding clinical and compassionate care he received," said Terry Lewis, Kaidyn's father. "We'll be blessed forever."
The road to parenthood for Terry and his wife Alicia wasn't easy. The couple had five miscarriages before Kaidyn was born by C-section.
Hospital officials said Hurley joined the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions in September.
The unit is the only level III NICU in Genesee County.
"This is the very best place for the region's smallest and critically ill babies,"said Esarn Kazem, MD, Hurley Medical Center Neonatologist. "We have what babies like Kayden need, around the clock."
Hospital officials said Kaidyn is thriving and growing stronger each day.
"I know there is no way our Kaidyn would have made this journey without Hurley," Terry said.
