Fire Levels Boarding House In Historic Flint Area 10-18-2010

Fire has destroyed a former boarding house in a historic district near downtown Flint. Now the Flint Police Chief says the fire was arson.
The 36-room Jackson-Hardy House, 525 Garland St., caught fire Sunday morning.
The blaze leveled it and the University of Michigan-Flint's neighboring Urban Alternative House.
The Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association owned the Jackson-hardy House.
President Tim Monahan said his group was only weeks away from securing $330,000 to complete restoration of the building.
Monahan said the association bought the boarding house in 1997.
He says it was lining up money from the city, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and tax credits to complete the work.
The building next to the Jackson-Hardy house also was destroyed.
Fire officials say the blaze may have been intentionally set.
