Birch Run Volunteer Coach Faces 7 Sex Charges 10-20-2010

A former Birch Run standout student athlete, who served as a volunteer assistant coach after graduating, has been charged with seven counts of criminal sexual conduct.
Logan Gaines, 20, graduated from Birch Run High School in 2009. School officials said he returned as an unpaid volunteer on the track team this past spring.
On Tuesday, Gaines was bound over to Saginaw County Circuit Court for trial on one charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim, age 13-15 years old.
Gaines also faces six additional criminal sexual conduct charges involving two other victims, including soliciting a minor for immoral purposes.
Police said all of the victims were female students in the Birch Run School District when the alleged incidents occurred.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled to continue Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
It's not known at this time if the victims came into contact with Gaines while he was volunteering with the team.
While a student at Birch Run High School, Gaines excelled on the football field, basketball court and at track.
He has since been released on bond.
Gaines is currently a sophomore at Central Michigan University.
