Levin Plans 3 Stops During Mid-Michigan Visit 10-20-2010

U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., is scheduled to visit Flint, Saginaw and Essexville on Wednesday.
Officials said he will tour the Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center, the Saginaw Regional Transit facility, and the Nickless Clinic throughout the day.
The Job Corps Center is a no-cost education and career training program administered by the Department of Labor that helps young people receive the training they need to find jobs. It opened in 1997 and currently has 360 students enrolled.
The Saginaw Regional Transit facility (STARS) recently purchased five new buses with funding they received through the stimulus bill. It also recently finished renovating its headquarters.
STARS Director Sylvester Payne said that the five new hybrid buses have been in service for about a month and cost about $360,000 each.
Payne said they have bike racks on them and a voice-speaking system that announces the upcoming stop for riders who are visually impaired.
The buses have a 35 passenger capacity. STARS is also using some of the grant money to convert 10 of the older buses to Hybrid Engine technology.
WNEM TV5 will have a recap of Levin's visit beginning on TV5 News at 5 p.m.
