Rep. Kildee Secures $66M For Auto Site Cleanup 10-20-2010

WASHINGTONCongressman Dale E. Kildee announced Wednesday that the Fifth Congressional District of Michigan will receive $66,628,000 in funding for the cleanup and redevelopment of former auto sites.
These allocations come as a result of an environmental settlement reached by the Obama administration and the Motors Liquidation Company, formerly known as General Motors.
As a whole, the state of Michigan will receive $159 million for cleanup as part of a trust that will provide 14 states and one tribe with more than $641 million to rehabilitate these contaminated sites for new use.
"Our auto communities in Michigan have been hit hard by the economic downturn and this cleanup money will help get these sites back up and running and create economic opportunities throughout our area," said Kildee of the funding.
The following sites will receive funding for cleanup: • Bay City - $3.5 million for one site • Burton - $2.4 million for two sites • Flint - $42.4 million for 9 sites, including just under $33 million for cleanup at Buick City • Grand Blanc - $528,000 for one site • Saginaw - $17.8 million for five sites
