Update: Meningitis Closes Farwell Area Schools 10-25-2010

Classes at Farewell Area Schools were canceled Monday because a student has been diagnosed with viral meningitis.
Melissa DeRoche, of the Central Michigan District Health Department, said the teen attends Farwell Middle School.
During a news conference on Monday, the school district said the student, who had previously been vaccinated against the illness, is being treated for the sickness.
Viral meningitis is the most common form of meningitis and most everyone recovers from viral meningitis within two or three days.
Officials said the sick student is expected to make a full recovery.
The district has cleaning crews at the school to disinfect classrooms, bathrooms and hallways.
Classes throughout the district could resume as early as Tuesday.
In May, 14-year-old Matthew Meyers died from bacterial meningitis. That form of meningitis is more severe and harder to treat. He was a four-sport athlete at Farwell Middle School.
