Jobless Benefits Ending For 2K County Residents 10-25-2010

More than 2,000 Saginaw County residents will run out of unemployment benefits by the end of next month, according to the Michigan League of Human Services.
And by April 2011, the number of people in the county expected to exhaust the 99 weeks of benefits will hit 5,000.
The Saginaw News reported the Department of Human Services said recently the number of people using Bridge Cards is up 10 percent from last year.
Michigan's Bridge Card is a type of food stamp on a debit card. Users select items at grocery stores and the card is swiped like a regular credit card during checkout. Each month, an allotted amount is deposited in the specific Bridge Card account.
As of August, 1 in 4 Saginaw County residents was receiving some type of food assistance.
