Mom, 26, Arraigned In Phony Amber Alert Case 10-27-2010

A Lapeer woman charged with falsely reporting a child abduction in Flint Township was arraigned in Genesee County on Wednesday morning.
Jessica Ann Hempton, 26, was charged with filing a false child abduction report, filing a false felony report and retail fraud. She pleaded not guilty.
Police said Hempton told them that a man kidnapped her 4-year-old daughter and forced her to steal a television from a Target store in exchange for the return of her daughter.
Police said when they heard her story, they issued an Amber Alert for the girl.
That alert was later rescinded when police said they learned the woman had lied about the abduction, along with her own identity.
The child was found safe with a guardian.
Hempton's pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Larry Stecco.
