Frankenmuth Bicyclist, 15, Struck By Vehicle 10-28-2010

The Frankenmuth Police Department said a 15-year-old was hospitalized after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car.
The collision occurred Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Main Street.
Police said the driver, a 41-year-old Frankenmuth man, was driving a 2003 Pontiac southbound on South Main Street in the curb lane and the bicyclist was riding northbound on the sidewalk.
When the cyclist reached a private driveway, he turned eastbound and entered the southbound traffic lane where he was struck by the southbound motorist, police said.
The cyclist suffered a leg injury in the collision and was transported to a Saginaw area hospital by Mobile Medial Response for treatment.
The cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.
Police said a preliminary investigation shows the driver could not have realistically avoided the collision.
The accident remains under investigation.
