TV5 Investigates: Dangers Of Synthetic Drugs 10-29-2010

Kids aren’t getting their drugs just from the street anymore. Instead, they’re buying them from stores – right in their own community.
Just last month, Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a bill banning synthetic drugs that go by names including K-2 and BZP in Michigan.
But new products are hitting the shelves everyday and police say they can’t keep up.
K-2 has been described as a marijuana-like substance but some lawmakers say it's been known to cause stronger, more serious reactions than marijuana typically does.
The drug is sometimes sold as potpourri or incense but users know it can be smoked. BZP is a stimulant sometimes marketed as Ecstasy and sold in cartoon shapes so they look like children's vitamins or candy.
