All Lanes Open; Interstate 69 Work Wraps Up 11-04-2010

The Michigan Department of Transportation has lifted remaining traffic restrictions on Interstate 69 from M-15 to M-24 in Genesee and Lapeer counties, opening all lanes Wednesday night.
This marks the end of the second phase in this two-year, $33 million project.
"This project will improve safety, traffic flow, and the overall pavement condition along I-69 through Genesee County," said Mike Hemmingsen, MDOT Davison Transportation Service Center manager.
During 2009, crews completed the first phase of the project with work across eastbound I-69 lanes. The second phase began this past April with work across westbound I-69 lanes.
Overall construction included concrete pavement and shoulder work, guardrail and drainage improvements and rehabilitation of 12 bridges.
In late September, I-69 westbound lanes were shifted from eastbound lanes to travel on the newly reconstructed westbound lanes as MDOT continued road and bridge work on I-69.
Soon after, westbound I-69 was reopened.
Once traffic was shifted, crews worked to remove temporary crossovers and barrier walls from the eastbound I-69 median that were used to separate traffic.
