Hallelujah! Northbound I-675 Reopens To Traffic 11-05-2010

Construction crews have wrapped up their 8-month-long project on northbound Interstate 675 on Friday.
The expressway through Saginaw reopen to traffic in both directions on Friday following millions of dollars in upgrades and repairs to bridges and roadways.
McCarty Road over I-675 is expected to reopen by Monday, and the I-675 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound is scheduled to reopen this weekend.
MDOT has invested $42 million overall in the I-675 project, which extends north from Buena Vista Township at the I-675/I-75 southern junction through the cities of Saginaw and Zilwaukee, and Saginaw and Kochville townships, to the I-675/I-75 northern junction.
Work included repairs on northbound I-675 and the interchange ramps, rehabilitation and overlay work on multiple bridges, deck replacement on the Henry Marsh Bridge and sidewalk improvements along Wadsworth, Fifth, Sixth, and Fitzhugh streets in downtown Saginaw.
"The improvements will increase traffic safety and improve the overall condition of this highway," said Gregg Brunner, MDOT Bay City Transportation Service Center manager.
MDOT closed the area in February when work was resumed on a two-year project to make improvements on eight miles of I-675 in Saginaw County.
Last year's work involved the southbound lanes.
The closure, while desperately in need of improvements, created headaches for motorists traveling through Saginaw.
An extensive detour took drivers around the construction to Tittabawassee Road and from there onto a short, open section of northbound I-675.
