Bay City Eateries Helping To Honor Veteran's Day 11-08-2010

Bay City Midland Street Merchants will be donating $1 per meal served Thursday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day, to raise money for the "Send Santa to the Troops" drive sponsored by The Yellow Ribbon Guard.
Over the past six years, the group has sent nearly 15,000 care packages to deployed service men and women.
In 2009, Help Send Santa to Baghdad sent over 900 care packages to our troops serving in Iraq, the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, The Midland Street merchants said they are also hearing that people are fearful to patronize businesses on the street and are desperately trying to makeover their tarnished image.
Part of that so-called tarnished image stems from the concentration of bars along a three-block stretch of Midland Street. The area has earned a "rough and tumble" label, but now the area hopes to change that.
With a new name, Great Lakes Bay Entertainment District, and more community-focused events planned, the street is regaining its reputation as Mid-Michigan's entertainment capital, area businesses say.
