Flint Homeowners To Pay One-Time Tax Bill 11-09-2010

It has been determined by Flint city officials that every homeowner in the city limits will get a one-time tax bill in December to cover the legal judgment for the Genesee Towers.
The 6.751 mills tax will go to cover a $9 million lawsuit the building’s owner filed against the city over it’s worth and for condemning Flint’s tallest structure.
A decision reached by an arbitrator in 2007 found that the city owed Kumar Vemulapalli $6 million plus interest.
The breakdown of what a homeowner will owe to the city is as follows:
Home’s taxable value/1,000 x 6.751 = total owed by homeowner to city.
So, if the home’s taxable value is $15,000, the equation workout as:
$15,000/1,000 x 6.751 = $101.27
Some places like hospitals will be exempt from the millage.
