Power Restored In Saginaw County After Outage 11-16-2010

A high-voltage transmission line went down Tuesday morning, knocking out power to several substations in northern Saginaw County.
In all, 6,900 Consumers Energy customers in Saginaw, Saginaw Township, Tittabawassee and Carrollton were affected.
As of 3:20 p.m., Consumers said power had been restored across the board.
Officials said a contractor from ITC Transmission Company was working on their system in Zilwaukee when a line fell, taking out the Consumer Energy high-voltage line. That wire supported several of the utility's substations around the county.
ITC said none of its people had a role in the downed line.
The Carrollton School District dismissed classes early due to the power outage.
Dozens of affected traffic signals around the county were also down causing minor backups.
A hardware store in Carrollton was still open for business even though people shopped in the dark.
Store employees used flashlights to find items in the store. With no cash register functioning, workers used calculators to sum up purchase totals.
