2 Arrested In WomanÂ?s Adult Foster Care Death 11-18-2010

Genesee County authorities have charged a woman and her granddaughter with felony murder for the death of a 71-year-old woman who starved while living in their unlicensed adult foster care home.
Mary Chapman, of Holly Township, and her daughter Vamerolyn Chapman, of Mt. Morris Township, are facing second-degree vulnerable abuse charges in the death of Joann Christopher.
Sheriff Robert Pickell held a press conference about the charges against the foster care operators on Thursday morning.
"We've really dismantled a network of unlicensed adult foster care homes,” said Pickell. “I think that has to be good news for people out there that have elderly folks that are being cared for."
Pickell says one of the women noticed Christopher wasn't eating in February, but the victim never saw a doctor.
Christopher died in March on the couch of an unlicensed adult foster care home in Mt. Morris Township where the two women worked.
Authorities said she weighed 64 pounds when she died at the unlicensed foster care home and she had lived at the facility for eight years.
They had no lawyers at their arraignment Thursday. They're being held without bond in the county jail.
