Apartments Honored For 24-7 Security Measures 11-22-2010

Earlier this month, Amurcon Corp. of Southfield, which manages the complex, instituted 24-hour security with guards at the entrance gate and walking around the property.
The move helped curve violence that was occurring at the complex.
During a Monday meeting, the apartment’s new security director and property manager will receive certificates of appreciation from the Saginaw County Great Start Collaborative -- a consortium of public and private organizations, faith-based groups, parents, and community leaders working toward a shared goal that keep children safe and healthy.
The group will also nominate the rental management company as an Outstanding Business Partner for 2011 for addressing the needs of families and children in the community.
April Wilkins has lived at the Birch Park Apartment complex for the last nine years. Over that time, she said she’s seen her fair share of violence at the complex.
But two weeks ago, the complex owners decided to do something about the bloodshed and brought in a security team that patrols the grounds 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The patrols are conducted on foot and in a marked vehicle. Residents told TV5 the patrols have made a difference.
The security team said they can act as another set of eyes and ears for the complex and that their sole mission is to keep the complex safe.
Wilkins said she hopes the team patrolling outside her door can make a real difference.
Security officials said they plan to take their efforts to the next level by installing surveillance cameras in the near future.
