Construction Begins On Giant Local Wind Farm 12-01-2010

The first part of construction for Gratiot County’s wind farm began Wednesday.
Crews began assembling parts of the 125 turbines at the site, near the town of Breckenridge.
Construction of the bases for the 330-foot tall turbines won't begin until spring 2011.
In the meantime, workers are also preparing the roads leading to the sites, which run between Wheeler and Bethany townships.
Invenergy Wind announced in September that the 30,000-acre wind farm is expected to be operating by late 2011, about 28 miles east of Saginaw.
The company said it will have the capacity to power nearly 54,000 homes.
The project is expected to create more than 150 construction jobs for skilled Michigan workers. To operate the wind farm, Invenergy said it will hire 15 full-time local high-tech workers.
Invenergy, which is affiliated with Chicago-based Invenergy LLC, also said it will be the largest wind farm in the state.
Detroit-based DTE Energy Co.'s Detroit Edison subsidiary plans to buy power from the wind farm.
