Bishop Airport Shows Off New Terminal Upgrades 12-02-2010

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. The updates and improvements at Flint Bishop International Airport are ready for inspection after the ribbon was cut on upgrades to the facility on Thursday.
The $4.6 million project was designed to give passengers all the comfort they need after they clear security.
“I'm proud of it; I think we have one of the nicest terminals in the country,” said airport director Jim Rice.
Before the upgrade, once air travelers cleared security, they could do little more than sit and wait for their flight. Now they can shop, dine or even whet their whistle and the facilities are all brand new.
“The concept here is to give passengers everything they needed,” said Rice. “A new restaurant, a nice bar and a gift shop. Everyone likes to eat, drink and shop while they're waiting for their plane.”
The new waiting area was designed so you can keep an eye on all the gates no matter where you are.
Lou Battino, the chief operating officer of retail operations at the airport, minces no words as he describes the way it used to be.
“There wasn't anything here from a retail standpoint,” said Battino. “[A] very small retail kiosk, and the food and beverage was understated. This is a big improvement over what was here.”
Rice said he knows they did the right thing upgrading Bishop and making it more like a big-city airport. “That's why our numbers keep going up,” remarked Rice.
