Taxpayers To Pay For Business Trip To Disney 12-10-2010

Your tax dollars are being spent on a trip to a conference at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.
Two Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission Board of Trustees members and a department biologist will be attending the American Mosquito Control Association Annual Conference from March 20-24, 2011 in Anaheim.

Mosquito Abatement Commission Director Randall G. Knepper told TV5 the trip will cost about $7,000 to attend.
The money will come out of a countywide .05-mill property tax assessment on taxpayers' bills.
The decision to take the trip has many people TV5 talked with upset.
“They’re taking trips and we’re supposed to be in a recession?” Saginaw resident James Hill said. “I thought this was a time to save your pennies.”
Knepper said they’ve been sending employees to the conference for years and that they’ve already made cuts to the trip compared to years past.
“There are people all over the United States that do mosquito control work," Knepper said."And to be face to face with those people is a valuable experience.”
The Saginaw County Board of Commissioners panel approved the trip.
