Snow Storm Affects Local Blood Donor Drives 12-13-2010

With winter weather already causing a dip in blood donations, the American Red Cross is asking for more blood donors.
Already this December, the organization said the weather has caused a dip in donations in just a matter of a few weeks of frigid temperatures.
Blood drive cancellations, which are common due to winter weather, have begun as well.
Four blood drives were canceled on Monday, and that meant the Red Cross was not able to collect 211 blood donations it was counting on to help the 60 hospitals they serve throughout the Great Lakes Region.
"The need for blood never stops, not even for winter weather or busy holidays," said American Red Cross communications manager Monica Stoneking. "You can help by giving blood now."
The Red Cross said it is giving extra incentive to give blood, such as: - Those who come to give blood in December can enter to win a $500 Best Buy gift certificate. - You can also enter to win an all-expense paid trip for two to Chicago to see the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball 2nd & 3rd Round playoff games March 18 & 21. Airfare and a three-night hotel stay are included. Promotion ends February 28.
