Letter Heats Up Midland County 1991 Cold Case 12-13-2010

The Midland County Sheriff's Department has released a letter in which the author confesses to hitting and killing a man 19 years ago.
Investigators are hoping it will help crack the case of 24-year-old Gregory McRoberts’ death.
Police said McRoberts was riding his bike when he was hit by a car in Midland County’s Lee Township in 1991.
Investigators said the letter was mailed to the victim's family and contains information only the driver would know.
After McRoberts was reported missing by family, police investigated and found his body partially submerged in a deep ditch on the west side of South Meridian Road, near Bradford Road.
Police said evidence at the scene indicated the striking vehicle may have been a light blue, 1980s four-door Oldsmobile Cutlass.
The parents of McRoberts were mailed a two page, type written letter on March 25, 2005, from an anonymous person who confessed to hitting their son.
Police said the letter lists certain specifics, as well as information about the accident.
Investigators said they think that the letter writer has likely shared information about the incident with another person.
The Sheriff's Office decided to release the letter to the public in the hopes that someone will recognize the writing style or some other specific about the author.
