Loons Name New Manager For Upcoming Season 12-14-2010

The Los Angeles Dodgers named John Shoemaker as the new manager of the Great Lakes Loons for the 2011 season.
Shoemaker, 54, spent the last two seasons as the Dodgers' Camelback Ranch-Glendale coordinator of instruction in Arizona.
The Loons new skipper has managed several minor league teams: Single-A Vero Beach (1987-88, 1997-98, 2000), Double-A San Antonio (1989-91), rookie-level St. Lucie (1992), Single-A Yakima (1993), rookie-level Great Falls (1995),Single-A Savannah (1996), Double-A Jacksonville (2001, 2005-08), and Triple-A Las Vegas (2003). He was a hitting coach for Vero Beach (1981-86, 1994) and San Antonio (1999).
Shoemaker was drafted by the Dodgers in the 35th round of the 1977 draft.
Former Loons leader, Juan Bustabad -- who was named Midwest League Manager of the Year in 2010, was promoted to the Dodgers' new affiliate in the Single-A California League.
