Partnership Announced For CMU Med School 12-14-2010

The presidents and CEOs of Central Michigan University, Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary's of Michigan and Synergy Medical Education Alliance in Saginaw announced a new relationship that will provide for clinical education for CMU's College of Medicine students while addressing improved delivery of health care in mid- and northern Michigan.
CMU President George E. Ross, Covenant HealthCare President and CEO Spence Maidlow, St. Mary's of Michigan President and CEO John Graham, and Synergy Medical Education Alliance President and CEO Terry Lerash told reporters and community leaders that their respective boards have voted to give CMU controlling interest in Synergy Medical Education Alliance.
The organization will be renamed CMU Medical Education Partners.
Synergy Medical Education Alliance was formed in 1968 to coordinate all of the medical education activities in the Saginaw community.
The corporation's primary educational mission includes undergraduate medical education, residency training and continuing medical education for all Saginaw physicians.
Synergy Medical currently has 285 employees, 120 of which are faculty physicians and residents. The corporation's annual net operating revenue is approximately $26 million.
Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary's of Michigan and Synergy Medical Education Alliance have an established history of providing quality health care while addressing medical education needs.
These institutions will serve as the anchor for a network of medical care providers who will offer clinical training to students in years three and four of CMU's medical education program.
An inaugural class is expected to begin its studies in the summer of 2012.
CMU has been engaged in the Saginaw community since the 1970s providing undergraduate and graduate degree programs and remains committed to enhancing its engagement through a facility in the Saginaw area to support medical education and clinical practice needs.
