Officials Eye More Road Construction For I-675 12-20-2010

Saginaw city leaders are working on plans to accommodate yet another construction project that will shut down a stretch of Interstate 675 for months.
From April of next year to November, both the northbound and southbound sides of the highway will be closed.
This time an even larger section will be closed, from I-75 all the way to the Warren Avenue overpass.
Saginaw City Council will vote Monday night to hand over several pieces of land under the Warren Avenue I-675 overpass.
That would put the Michigan Department of Transportation one step closer to begin a major construction project. Workers plan to build a new northbound I-675 exit ramp and a southbound I-675 entrance ramp at Warren Avenue.
The new interchange would give drivers closer access to downtown venues and medical services. The project is actually part of the reconstruction job that closed the freeway for much of this year.
Next year's project is expected to cost $12.5 million and calls for crews to replace six deficient bridges and permanently remove several others.
The next step for MDOT with this project: putting out bids in March so they can close this freeway in April.
