Bay City's Newest Eatery Opens For Business 12-21-2010

Latitude 43 started serving up food to hungry customers Tuesday morning, and it’s out to prove it’s not just another Bay City bar and grill.
A TV5 camera was rolling as they served up the first order at Latitude 43. The restaurant is a boon to the local economy as it is employing more than 40 workers.
Latitude 43 is located on Henry Street, on the city's west side, where the Paddock restaurant used to be.
The new owners are a pair of Bay City brothers who worked long and hard to remodel the establishment inside and out.
They decided to buy it last February, and poured their hearts and souls into the project, leading up to today's grand opening. Even though the economy is down, they're confident they'll make the restaurant work.
"It's just like anything out there, if you do a great job and you get a great response from the people and you support the community, that's what it's all about, and that's what we're here to do," said Joe Vanmullekom, co-owner of the restaurant.
The bar has nine televisions, so TV5’s Craig McMorris said there's not a bad seat in the house for watching sports action. They hope to start serving beer on Wednesday and said they'll have eight varieties on tap with a full bar.
Customers McMorris talked with said they love the new joint.
"In a way, it's nothing new to me, because in the 1940s, my father Gordon Bowman worked for Wilbur Rivette, and he entertained here and he was also the bartender," said customer Lila Maxine Peters.
"We've been watching them remodel and fix it up,” said customer Bob Rosa. [We’re] glad to see it open and [we’re] always looking for a good place with good food."
The restaurant features a full menu and a lot of enthusiasm from its owners. By the way, the owners said the name Latitude 43 refers to Bay City’s position on the globe.
And the ribbon was also cut on the World Cafe in Bay City. It's an international bistro open for lunch and dinner, and is found on the corner of Center and Saginaw streets.
