Consumers Energy Customers May See Refund 12-23-2010

Utility bills for many Consumers Energy customers will be affected by orders from the Michigan Public Service Commission.
Consumers Energy was ordered to refund millions of dollars to natural gas customers because a self-implemented rate increase was more than the final amount approved by regulators.
A typical residential customer could get a refund of $4.73 for January.
Meanwhile, it's an issue TV5’s been following since our original Pipeline Peril investigation in November.
TV5 found several residents didn't know they lived so close to natural gas pipelines. Now many are getting notifications.
Anyone living by a Consumers Energy pipeline should received a notice. Consumers is sending letters to inform people they live by a pipeline.
The letter tells people what to do if there is a problem with the line and it also raises awareness.
Utility companies are required by law to notify the public, emergency officials, public officials and excavators of the locations of pipelines.
