Snyder's Jan. 1 Inauguration Itinerary Announced 12-23-2010

In a show of bipartisan support, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will serve as the master of ceremonies during Governor-elect Rick Snyder’s inauguration ceremony and Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell will lead the invocation and closing prayer.
“I appreciate Mayor Bing and Mayor Heartwell being a part of the swearing in ceremony. It is yet another positive sign that people across the state are excited and ready to work together to reinvent Michigan,” Gov.-elect Rick Snyder said.
Other highlights of the inauguration ceremony include a fly over by four A-10 Thunderbolt II ground attack aircrafts (“Warthogs”) from the 127th Air Wing, a 19 cannon salute and music by the Michigan Army National Guard band.
The inauguration ceremony takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lansing. The inauguration ceremony is open to the public and free to attend; it is not necessary to register in advance. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early and assemble on the east lawn of the Capitol. Free parking will be available at multiple locations surrounding the Capitol.
Following the swearing in, Governor Snyder will then greet residents in a receiving line from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. In the evening, the governor will attend the inaugural celebration at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts on Michigan State University’s campus in East Lansing.
