2 Bay City Women Stabbed In Home Invasion 12-31-2010

Two people are in custody following a double stabbing in Bay City.
It happened at a residence on the west side of the city early Friday morning. WNEM TV5's Craig McMorris talked with one of the victims about the incident.
"We could have been dead, you know," said stabbing victim Maryann Gilbert.
Gilbert was spending the night with her girlfriend, who had recently suffered a broken foot. Imagine her terror when she realized that someone had broken into their room and was attacking them with knives.
"I thought it was a dream, I was just laying there, with a blanket over my face, they came up and pulled the covers off me, held the knife to my eyes, and I just looked like, ‘are you really going to stab me?’ and she's over there fighting the other person, the other female, and he stabbed me, for real, right here," described Gilbert.
Gilbert screamed, and then said she played dead. Her attacker was a man who then joined with a female accomplice in attacking her friend, who doesn't want to be identified. Gilbert then called for help.
"I snuck and called 911 on my phone because I hid my phone,” said Gilbert. “They kept trying to find our phones."
The attackers then ran out of the house. Bay City Police said they were found and arrested a few hours later down the street at a house that is apparently the male suspect's residence.
It's been a long morning for a mother of one of the victims. Brenda Short said she’s thankful that her daughter is still alive.
Short said her daughter has a wound to her side, her arm and abrasions on the back. She said she knows why the incident took place, and her daughter knows both of her attackers.
"He wanted to borrow money and she had told him no,” said Short. “Because she had gotten her Social Security check today, she told him no, he kept calling her phone and the last call was at 4:01 this morning."
The suspects are a 24-year-old Bay City man and a 38-year-old Bay City woman. They are being held in the county jail.
The two are expected to be arraigned on home invasion and stabbing charges next week.
