Suspicious Object Found At Apartment Complex 12-31-2010

Detectives in Saginaw Township thought they had a pipe bomb on their hands Friday morning at the Olive Tree apartment complex.
A maintenance worker discovered the suspicious device during his morning rounds lying outside one of the buildings.
The Michigan State bomb squad was called in. Police used an FA6 robot to pick up the device.
Police said it looked identical to a pipe bomb but there were no explosives inside.
Police said the 12-inch piece of pipe had two end caps and contained an unknown type of leafy substance, which they said could be a type of herb or spice.
"I just thought wow that's weird I went to pick it up and I went, ‘Oh my God, [it] looks like a bomb. I better not touch it,’" said maintenance worker Bryan McCoy.
“I am thankful that no explosives were found inside the pipe and that no harm came to anyone involved with this incident,” said Saginaw Township Chief of Police Donald Pussehl.
Saginaw Township detectives are now testing the device for fingerprints.
Anyone with information about the device is asked to call the department at 989-791-7226.
