State Troopers Reel In Wrong Way Driver On I-75 1-05-2011

Michigan State Troopers from the Bay City post responded to a call of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 75 early Wednesday morning.
Around 7:20 a.m., Bay County 911 was notified about a dark colored Buick traveling southbound on I-75 in the northbound lanes.
Initial calls placed the vehicle near U.S.10 and later calls indicated the driver made it all the way to M-84.
Troopers located the driver south of Amelith Road where the vehicle was on the median shoulder.
Troopers said as they approached the car, the wrong-way driver started to back out into the traffic lanes traveling south in the northbound lanes.
With emergency lights activated, troopers said the driver stopped and a patrol car was positioned to prevent the driver from moving forward.
The man behind the wheel was not identified in a news release, but police said he was an 86-year-old from Bay City.
Troopers said he appeared confused and was possibly experiencing a medical emergency.
An ambulance transported the man to Bay Regional Medical Center.
Troopers said the man will be required to visit the secretary of state’s office for a driver evaluation. It is unknown if the man was ticketed.
