Weekend Fire Kills 56-Year-Old While Camping 1-10-2011

A 56-year-old Jerome Township man was killed Saturday morning while camping.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office said the fire broke out around 7 a.m. inside a camper trailer in the 2000 block of W Huckleberry Road in Jerome Township.
According to a news release, deputies were unable to locate the victim’s body immediately because the camper had been completely destroyed by the flames.
The victim was later identified as Roy James Carigan.
Deputies said the preliminary cause of death appears to be smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
