Stabenow Visits Region To Discuss New Role 1-12-2011

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow was in Mid-Michigan on Wednesday to talk about her new role as Department of Agriculture chairwoman and what she hopes to do to help local farmers.
The senator visited Dow Agrosciences in Harbor Beach, Cooperative Elevator in Pigeon and Star of the West Milling in Frankenmuth.
Agriculture generates more than $71.3 billion in revenue each year as the state’s second-largest industry. It also accounts for 1 out of every 4 jobs in the state.
On Tuesday, Stabenow said hearings on the nation's next Farm Bill could begin by February or March.
The Farm Bill sets the federal government's financial support for the agriculture sector.
The current bill expires in 2012.
