Armed Day Care Standoff Ends With ManÂ?s Arrest 1-14-2011

Saginaw County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home day care in the village of Merrill on a report of a family incident involving a firearm on Thursday night.
Sheriff Bill Federspiel said when deputies arrived at the residence at 216 Crawford Road, near Gratiot Road, a man was found to be in the house with a shotgun while in the presence of two children.
Police said a female initially reported the incident to 911. According to police, the victim said the man engaged in an argument that escalated into the man possessing a loaded shotgun inside the home.
TV5 has confirmed the home where the incident took place is a licensed day care center. According to Sergent Randy Pfau, the man lives at the home and the children involved were either his children or step-children. They were not day care client children.

A TV5 investigation reveals the daycare has at least one prior violation for conditions in one of the rooms.
Federspiel said an Emergency Services Team was able to gain access to the home and take the man into custody without any injuries. The man was then taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Deputies said they confiscated two long guns from the home, along with the shotgun.
Federspiel said the investigation’s results will be forwarded to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s office for further review.
