Mt. Pleasant Man Charged In Assault With Shoes 1-17-2011

A member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian tribe accused of assaulting his girlfriend faces federal charges including using his shoes as a dangerous weapon.
Jonathon Pego of Mount Pleasant was indicted last week on one count of assault within maritime or territorial jurisdiction.
FBI and Saginaw Chippewa Tribal police said in records filed in U.S. District Court in Bay City that on Dec. 29 Pego pulled his girlfriend to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the head.
They say the incident happened on the reservation in Mid-Michigan and Pego used the shoes he was wearing as weapons.
The victim suffered a swollen right eye and facial bruising.
Police did not immediately know if Pego had a lawyer.
