Annual Breakfast Highlights Mentoring Program 1-17-2011

The Big Brothers Big Sisters 100 Men 100 Boys Program hosted its the 5th Annual Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast to commemorate January's National Mentoring Month and the annual observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Officials said the event highlights the positive and significant impact of mentoring youth and to engage more individuals, particularly men, in sharing their time as a mentor. There are more than 350 Genesee County children currently waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister, according to a news release.
The breakfast was held at the University of Michigan-Flint NorthBank Center at 8:30 a.m.
Shawn Dove, of the Open Society Foundations in New York, served as the keynote speaker.
Dove has more than two decades of leadership experience in youth development, education, and community building. Dove also served as one of the founding directors of New York City's Beacon School movement in the early 1990s while working with the Harlem Children's Zone.
