UM-Flint Students Help Provide Vet With Home 1-17-2011

After nearly six months of work, thousands of volunteer hours and thousands of dollars in donations, a home for a deserving veteran is ready to be dedicated.
Last July, two UM-Flint groups, Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Student Veterans of America joined with Habitat for Humanity to renovate a house and present it to a veteran.
Kappa Sigma originally was pursuing the project through a national program called Fisher Houses for Military Families, when it decided to consult with the SVA group. which was looking at a similar project. They joined forces and approached Habitat, which added a substantial cash donation for the renovation.
A Navy veteran and her fiance were selected to receive the house and moved in a few days before Christmas.
The dedication is being held Monday at 5:45 p.m. The total cost of the renovation came in at $65,000.
