State Of State Preview: What Snyder May Say 1-18-2011

Michigan manufacturers hope Gov. Rick Snyder talks about plans to lower business taxes when he gives his first State of the State address Wednesday.
Snyder won't be putting out a written copy of the speech.
His spokesman said the new Republican governor doesn't tend to work off a prepared text, so there's no written copy to release.
The talk will focus on economic development and job creation and is expected to be about 40 minutes long.
Michigan Manufacturers Association Vice President Michael Johnston said Tuesday that manufacturers pay an unfair share of state business taxes.
He hopes the new governor eventually will consider doing away with the personal property tax, which brings in about $1 billion a year.
WNEM.com and MY5 will broadcast Snyder’s State of the State Address beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Snyder wants to replace the Michigan Business Tax with a flat 6 percent corporate income tax on major businesses, but hasn't given many details.
Johnston has reservations about Snyder's plan because he doesn't know how it would work
He said all businesses should pay tax in Michigan, but the tax rate needs to be lower if the state is to be globally competitive.
