'Dangerous Dogs' List Sure To Wag Some Tails 1-18-2011

Saginaw is changing its rules on owning so-called "dangerous dogs."
The City Council has been working on the ordinance since August.
Current licensing fees for dogs will remain intact, but the new rules would impose a $50 one-time fee for anyone who owns a dog on the city's list of the 10 most dangerous breeds.
Anyone not paying the $50 could face a civil infraction fine set by a judge.
On the list are pit bulls, Alaskan malamutes and huskies, rottweilers, Doberman pinschers, presa canarios, German shepherds, Great Danes, chow chows and St. Bernards. The list is the same as that created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Owners would also have to attach a city-issued sign warning of the dog's presence on their property, and they'll have to muzzle the dog while walking it.
City Council members hope to review the rules in February. They could take effect as early as April 1.
Currently, city residents pay $12 per year to license spayed and neutered dogs and $25 for dogs that are not fixed.
