Police: Suicidal Imlay City Man In Custody 1-21-2011

Police in Imlay City said they have arrested a gunman who barricaded himself inside a home.
Imlay police officers were called to a home around 9 a.m. Friday on Sixth Street due to a domestic situation.
A caller from inside the home told police her 43-year-old husband was despondent and threatening suicide. After informing officers that her husband was armed with a handgun, she was advised to leave the residence, and did.
Officers surrounded the home and evacuated several other neighbors from their houses while the special response team arrived at the scene.
During this time, the man refused to leave the house. Around 11:30 a.m., the man exited the home while still armed.
Imlay City Police Chief John Stano said he held the gun up to his chin and yelled for officers to shoot him. He was ordered to drop his weapon but he refused.
Stano said the man walked down the middle of the street, yelling at officers, who then used a Taser to stun the man and take him into custody.
The case is now being forwarded to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office for further review. The man’s name was not released by authorities.
