Fixing Fire-Damaged City Hall Could Take Awhile 1-21-2011

TV5 was there when the Bay City Hall fire broke out last October, and was the first to get a look inside at the damage.
Now, nearly four months later, TV5 is asking exactly where the cleanup efforts stand.
TV5 has learned Bay City residents could have to wait a little while longer to get back inside City Hall. Initially, city officials were talking about a May deadline, but now it could be pushed back to September.
Officials said the interior of the historic building doesn’t look much different than it did when TV5 cameras went through in December. The city is currently waiting to hear from its insurance company.
Work is set to start on the interior restoration, but first, officials need to find out how much the insurance company is paying for.
City officials will meet with the insurance company and code officials next Friday. The restoration work will focus on making City Hall more energy-efficient and historically accurate.
This has been a long process, and the city manager said he just can't wait until it's over.
“The end, that's what I'm looking forward to is the end,” said City Manager Robert Belleman. “To get back, to bring all of the offices that are now in five or six different locations back under one roof.”
