Most Dangerous Saginaw County Intersections 1-24-2011

TV5 got a closer look at some of the most dangerous intersections in Mid-Michigan.
According to the Michigan State Police Traffic Safety division, Saginaw Township’s State and North Center intersection is the most dangerous in the county.
State police tallied 51 crashes at the intersection last year and 267 since 2006. According to Michigan Department of Transportation and Saginaw County Road Commission data, a daily average of 27,600 vehicles pass through the intersection on State, with 23,000 vehicles on North Center.
The second most treacherous intersection is Tittabawassee at Bay in Kochville Township, where 40 crashes occurred last year and 186 in the last five years.
A spokesperson with the Michigan Department of Transportation said high traffic volumes combined with distracted drivers can make for a high number of accidents.
MDOT points out it just retimed traffic signals through the State Street corridor last year, and MDOT said that should help.
According to the state police traffic safety division, these are the top five high-crash intersections:
-State Street and North Center Road -Bay Road and Tittabawassee Road -Bay Road and Weiss Street -Mackinaw Road and Tittabawassee Road -State Street and Wieneke Road
Authorities said a lot of these accidents are rear-end crashes and fender benders.
