Lawmakers Would Allow Guns In More Places 1-25-2011

Two Michigan lawmakers want to lift the restrictions on where residents with the proper licenses can carry concealed weapons.
Republican state Sen. Mike Green of Mayville on Tuesday introduced legislation that would repeal so-called "no carry" zones at sports stadiums, schools, churches, hospitals and casinos.
The legislation comes on the heels of another House bill introduced by state Rep. Richard LeBlanc, a Democrat from northern Michigan. That legislation is HB 4009 and was introduced on Jan. 13.
Some similar proposals have been introduced in recent years but haven't passed the Legislature.
Green's bill also would get rid of local gun licensing boards. The secretary of state's office would take over permits for concealed weapons.
State law related to who can get concealed weapons permits would not change under either proposal. Those applying for the permit are required to submit to a background search, fingerprinting and eight hours of classes.
