Snow Forces Auto Plants To Close Until Thursday 2-02-2011

Automakers have told workers at 21 plants to stay home because of a blizzard that dumped a foot or more of snow in parts of the Midwest.
Some factories operated by General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler suspended production of one or two shifts Wednesday.
Closures occurred at plants in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Ontario, Canada. Chrysler reopened many of its plants by mid-day Wednesday.
The affected plants included sites that build the Chevy Volt, Ford F-150 and Dodge Caliber. Workers are expected to return to their jobs Thursday.
Shipments of cars and trucks to dealer showrooms shouldn't be delayed.
But the industry is monitoring potential parts shortages that could arise later this week if shuttered auto suppliers fail to make enough parts to keep plants running.
