Mayor Says SaginawÂ?s Train Is Back On Track 2-03-2011

The mayor of Saginaw gave his State of the City address at a meeting Thursday morning.
Mayor Greg Branch said Saginaw’s train is back on track.
He touted a 20 percent drop in violent crime, and the fact that last year, the city's murder rate hit a 40-year low.
Saginaw Police Chief Gerald Cliff said new technology, like surveillance cameras, should help in the continued fight against crime.
"We’re starting off with, I think, close to 40 cameras in one of our statistically most challenged neighborhoods,” said Cliff. “We have private entities coming in to handle the Birch Park area, the Vestry Project area or St. Paul townhouses."
Cliff said the Shotspotter system is an important crime fighting tool.
The system can pinpoint and direct officers to gunfire within minutes of it happening.
