Starved, Abused Dog Discovered Tied To Tree 2-07-2011

Over the weekend, a starving dog was found tied to a tree in Flushing.
TV5 was contacted by Mary Schaap, who said the young boxer was discovered at the corner of Carpenter and Branch roads.
Schaap said someone saw the dog and posted its picture on Craigslist. “People came from all over looking for the dog, but it had gotten loose and was too scared to let anyone near it,” said Schaap.
TV5 learned the Genesee police department managed to capture the dog. Schaap said its leg was broken so badly that it could twist completely around and that the dog was so starved, every bone in her body is visible.
“[She] is flea covered and [has] horrible worms,” said Schaap. “Someone just tied [her] up and left [her] to die.”
Schaap said in an e-mail to TV5 that if police can find the person responsible for leaving the dog, they could be charged with felony animal abuse. Schaap took the dog in and named her Daisy. She said she and her family have taken Daisy to the vet in an attempt to save her life.
The family has set up a Facebook page about the dog’s plight and is hoping to get donations to help cover some of the veterinary costs.
“We want this story to get out to show what animal abuse looks like and try to keep other animals safe,” said Schaap. “This dog is such a sweet dog, even after everything she’s been through.”
Late Monday, Schaap added this to Daisy's Facebook page:
If anyone would like to donate directly to the vet, the address is Westwood Veterinary Hospital, 4123 W. Coldwater Road, Flint, MI 48504. Put “Daisy” on the memo line. Their phone number is 810-785-2211 and they will also take donations over the phone.
