Authorities Still Searching For Missing Man, 62 2-09-2011

Authorities have resumed search efforts Thursday morning for a 62-year-old Midland County man who has been missing since Tuesday afternoon.
The Midland County Sheriff's Department said Bob Cole may have stumbled into the Titabawassee River, just a few miles south of Wixom Lake in Edenville.
Deputies said Cole was last seen searching for his yellow lab named Joe near Curtis Road and M-30 along the Tittabawassee River just after 3 p.m. Police said his vehicle was located by the river still idling.
Officers followed tracks in the snow that led them to the the river bank, according to a news release issued by Sheriff Jerry Nielsen
"You could see where the footprints slipped and entered the ice," Nielsen said. "No tracks leaving the ice/open water were located."
The sheriff's dive team, as well as the Michigan State Police air unit, were called to help scour the area. Search crews also used infra-red units that help detect heat while searching overnight.
The state police dive team is also searching the Tittabawassee River.
“We’re just hoping we have a good end to this,” said Michigan State Lt. John Card. “Obviously with the cold temperatures that we have, the depth of the snow and the banks being so steep, we are concerned, we are looking in the water.”
Wednesday, grief councilors were on hand at Meridian High School. Cole had been a teacher in the district since 1970 and even though he retired two years ago, he was still a track coach at the school.
