14-Year-Old Passenger Killed In Rollover Crash 2-10-2011

A Wednesday afternoon rollover car crash has claimed the life of a Saginaw County teenager, authorities said.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. in Chesaning Township.

The Saginaw County Sheriff's Office said a 16-year-old Ethan Dankert, of Chesaning, lost control of his 1999 Grand Prix on Baldwin Road east of Frandsche and crashed. The vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch and flipped over, landing on its roof.
Deputies said 14-year-old Oakley resident Shelby Bates was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Dankert and front-seat passenger Katelyn Beckman, 15, of Chesaning, were taken to a local hospital. They suffered non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
Officers are not sure what caused the driver to lose control, police said.
